Worcester County Commissioners are looking at imposing 200 foot setbacks for chicken houses and placing a limit of 8 houses on a parcel of land.

In addition, the proposal would place vegetative buffers between the chicken houses and nearby properties.

Kathy Phillips with the Assateague Coastal Trust told WBOC she would like to see a health ordinance adopted to look at the cumulative impact of these houses as well their density.

This would be the first change in some 50 years to deal with the growing number of large poultry houses that have sprung up on Delmarva.

The commissioners have scheduled a hearing on the issue for April 25th.
