Case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Found in Worcester County

A case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been confirmed in Worcester County.

WBOC reports that officials said it found a pool of water in the Whaleyville area that tested positive.

It is the first one for the year.

The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and is spread to humans and as well animals such a birds and horses.

Signs of the infection range from fever and headache to vomiting and convulsions.

There is also possibility of coma.

Owners of horses are urged to get their animals vaccinated from the disease and should contact their vet for more details.

Residents are also encouraged to eliminate any standing water where mosquitoes can breed.
