The NorthNode Group Counseling center has been given the green light to stay open in Dover by the Kent County Commissioners.

The vote was 6-to-1 despite opposition by some its neighbors who were concerned about the center’s clientele and foot traffic.

WBOC reports that the property had been the site of a dental office and home accounting business.

The property is zoned for neighborhood businesses so the commissioners approved a conditional use permit for the center to offer substance abuse counseling.

The center had been operating without the permit but county officials said that a business would not be closed if it is seeking the proper permit.
