DOVER, Del. (AP) — Delaware's Senate has approved a bill repealing a lodging tax authorization law that prompted conflict-of-interest concerns after its enactment.
Sen. Trey Paradee, a Dover-area Democrat, is the sponsor of both last year's authorization measure and its repeal.
He told lawmakers Thursday that he never discussed the tax bill with any relatives before its passage, and that no one in his family advocated for it.
The bill allowed Kent County elected officials to impose a lodging tax of up to 3%, with all revenue going to a regional sports complex, whose board members included Paradee's brother.
