Wilmington Police say a city block has been evacuated after possible explosive ordnance was unearthed this morning.
Corporal Mark Ivey said that public works crew unearthed the materials in the 500 block of Barrett St. about 10:15 a.m.
Police evacuated the area and the city’s bomb squad was called in.
He told the Wilmington News Journal that police determined P.S. DuPont Middle School was not in danger and has not been evacuated.
Ivey said Harlan Elementary School was also placed on lockdown but has was not evacuated.
