The 2025 Water Family Fest and Native Plant Sale is set for Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Water Family Fest and Native Plant Sale, which started in 2019, is free and family-friendly. It features “feet-wet, hands-dirty fun,” outdoor recreation and educational opportunities, multiple exhibits, food trucks, and a native plant sale. Organizations and nonprofits gather at James Farm Ecological Preserve and offer a variety of activities and exhibits. Staff from local plant nurseries are on hand to answer questions on the importance of native species and offer a variety of native plants for sale to the public.
Educational exhibits help people explore environmental topics such as seagrass, shellfish, waves, beaches, wetlands, tax ditches, rain gardens, and more. Attendees can explore hiking trails, enjoy kids’ activities and hands-on learning, or even try paddleboarding and kayaking.
For more information on the event, please contact Caitlin Chaney, by email at cchaney@inlandbays.org.
Attention all wine, food, and music lovers! The 9th Annual Southern Delaware Wine, Food, & Music Festival is happening Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Schellville in Rehoboth Beach, DE. The new date follows a postponement from October 2024 and was announced by President and Festival founder, Stacy LaMotta.
“I am thrilled and grateful to once again present this award-winning festival for our community,” said LaMotta. “Thank you to everyone who is helping to make the festival possible and was supportive of the decision to postpone last year’s event. This year’s festival at Schellville will continue the tradition of being truly amazing and representative of what our beloved Delaware coastal area has to offer.”
The event will feature over 20 local restaurants and 100 tastes of wine, cocktails, craft beer, mocktails and live music.
Since 2015, LaMotta’s Southern Delaware Wine, Food, & Music Festival has brought thousands of individuals together to celebrate the culinary excellence and passionate community of Delaware’s beloved beach coast, raising over $250,000 to support area nonprofits.
Sussex County Habitat for Humanity and the Harry K Foundation are the beneficiaries for this year’s event. The Healthy Homes Initiative at Sussex County Habitat for Humanity has served over 2,500 individuals in Sussex County through home construction and preservation, home repairs, financial literacy and energy efficient upgrades. The Harry K Foundation delivers several programs dedicated to eliminating hunger and food insecurities among children in Delaware. Since 2013, the Foundation has established and funded 52 pantries in schools and sponsored the School Backpack program to provide over 630 children with food for weekends, holidays, and summer break.

The Festival, a division of OuterArts Maryland, Inc., combines world-class mentor musicians and gifted pre-professional apprentice musicians for an intense Festival experience the first two weeks of each June. All apprentices receive full scholarships and housing, mostly with host families in private homes. The two groups rehearse and perform side by side in orchestral, chamber, solo recital, choral, and chamber opera repertoire. In two weeks, these musicians present over 30 concerts and over dozens of free open rehearsals for music lovers from around the world.
Each year the Festival serves approximately 110 apprentices and employs approximately 30 mentors (including the Artistic and Executive Directors, who also teach). Musicians come to the Festival each year from more than 15 countries and 30 U.S. states. The average age of apprentices is 22, although some are older and have already completed their advanced degrees and begun their careers.
Concerts and free open rehearsals take place in a variety of venues including churches, theaters, art galleries, and local businesses. In addition to its performances, open rehearsals, and broadcasts on National Public Radio, the National Music Festival will record compact discs to be distributed globally. Current recording projects include the music of Phanos Dymiotis and music for orchestra with narration (Liane Hansen, narrator).
The Festival’s performances and pre-concert talks provide affordably priced entertainment and education to its patrons, including children. All rehearsals are free and open to the public. Attending rehearsals is a particularly good way to introduce young children to concert music!
