Horse Euthanized on Assateague

Assateague Island National Seashore Website

A horse has been euthanized on Assateague Island after it engaged in a fight with another one.

That’s according to the National Park Service census report for May.

Officials said that the horse broke its hind leg during the fight.

WBOC reports that officials say there are 76 horses on the island.

21 of them are stallions and 55 are mares.

The census is done every two months.

A new foal was born on earlier this month.
