Assateague Horse Euthanized After Car Accident

Assateague Island suffered another loss.  

A 2-year old stallion was euthanized on August 15th after an automobile accident.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports Adriana’s Yankee Prince was reported to be unable to stand early on Wednesday morning.

The death of the horse now puts the total number of stallions on the island to 20.

There are 58 mares as well.

In addition there are two horse who are missing or presumed dead.

They are Braidwood and Dani.

The National Park Service does a complete census of the horse population six times year including in July.

They are free to roam about the 27 miles of barrier island.
