American Idol Sends Delaware's Margie Mays to Hollywood

American Idol broadcast

25-year old Margie Mays from Wilmington, Delaware has won a spot on American Idol.

It was an excited Mays who sang “Shot”.

But judges Luke Bryan and Katy Perry gave her the go ahead to make her way to the stage in Hollywood.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that last spring she sent her father a clip of her singing the “The Star Spangled Banner”.

Her father Chris encouraged her to try out for American Idol.

But it was not the first time Mays came to the attention of the show.

Member of the casting crew had spotted her when Mays tried out for another reality singing show a year before, kept her information and came looking for Mays the day of her father’s advice.
