The White Marlin Open began yesterday with the boat called The Old Slick that brought in a white marlin.

But while it was the required 67 inches in length it was short of the 70 pounds as required by the tournament rules.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that several other white marlin came close to meeting the requirements but did not make it.

The paper reports that the biggest tuna was caught by John Hoffman from the boat Reed Direct.

It weighed 67 pounds.

Meanwhile, Thomas Bennett from the boat Delta Dawn caught a dolphin weigh in 34.5 pounds.

No blue marlin were caught yesterday.
