Tommy Hinkle has put his name at the top of the leaderboard in the White Marlin Open yesterday.

He came in with a white marlin weighing 79.5 pounds which is currently worth $1.4 million.

Hinkle said that he battled with the marlin for nearly two hours and approached the boat a number of times before the crew was finally able to get aboard the boat.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that he surpassed Nathan Walker’s opening day catch of 74 pounds.

Hinkle’s boat was one of 102 that went out yesterday.
