Cape Henlopen School Board to Reconsider Dropping Book from Reading List

Some Cape Henlopen School board members have indicated they are willing to reconsider their decision to pull a young adult novel from a freshman summer reading list after protests from parents and librarians.

Last month the board voted to eliminate the book “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” whose central character comes to the realization that she is gay and that includes some expletives which at least one board member found offensive.

Board Vice President Roni Posner was the sole vote against the decision to take the book off the reading list.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that at yesterday’s meeting she asked the board to reconsider its decision and put the issue back on a meeting agenda later this month so that it could go through the regular written review policy on challenged books.
