There's a New Miss Delaware

facebook

A new Miss Delaware was crowned last night.

She’s 24-year old Brittany Lewis of Wilmington.

The brief ceremony took place at the Dover Downs Hotel Casino last night.

She was first runner up and replaces Amanda Longacre who will be 25 in October and will be too old to participate in the Miss America Organization.

Longacre was crowned June 14 but will turn 25 on Oct. 22, before year's end.

Miss America pageant rules require contestants to be between the ages of 17 and 24.

Carolyn Nelson, media relations coordinator for the Miss Delaware organization, tells The State News in Dover that Longacre did nothing wrong and had accurately reported her birth date on applications.

Longacre will lose the $9,000 scholarship. She tells The State News that she has now nothing to show for her efforts in competing in the pageant.
