Voters in Maryland’s First Congressional District could be urged to cast their ballot for a familiar name.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that former congressman Wayne Gilchrest has emerged as one of two possible Democratic challengers to incumbent Republican Andy Harris.

The resignation of Wendy Rosen as the party standard bearer after allegations of voter fraud came to the surface has caused Democrats to find a write in candidate.

Gilchrest served as a Republican congressman on the Eastern Shore for nearly 2 decades before Harris defeated him in the party primary.

Gilchrest eventually endorsed Harris’s Democratic opponent Frank Kratovil.

The paper reports that the top choice for a candidate to run against Harris is John LaFerla.

Party Chair Trudy Andersen noted that LaFerla has a support network from the primary race, campaign signs and a campaign account to make a run.
