Sussex County Church Seeks Expansion for Homeless Shelter

A local church in Sussex County will be asking local officials to approve an expansion of its homeless shelter for women to now house men.

The Philadelphia Pentecostal Holiness Church near Ellendale is asking the Board of Adjustment for a special-use exception.

Bishop Major Foster is the church leader who worked with Brandywine Counseling & Community Services to start the shelter.

Foster wants to provide help to men…who have been released from prison or are on probation but have nowhere to stay.

Currently, he says it serves women and their young children…who have been released from prison and would be homeless.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that church campus acts as a one-stop shop for destitute people holding a soup kitchen three days a week and providing an opportunity to women to earn their GED.
