Row Between Democrats Over Proposed Shutdown of Easton Mail Processing Center

Maryland’s Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin are now expressing their outrage at the decision to shut down the mail processing center in Easton and moving the operation to Hares Corner near New Castle in Delaware.

The Democratic Senators said it was their understanding that the Easton operation would move to the Baltimore plant.

Meanwhile, fellow Democrat Senator Tom Carper from the First State, who oversees the postal service, proposed the alternative plan in a bid to preserve the Hare’s Corner facility.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the two Maryland Democrats said last month there was undue political influence behind the change.

And they have written twice in a month to the Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe demanding more public hearings and a comment period on the closing of the Easton facility where 126 postal jobs are at stake.
