Senator Ben Cardin warned that the decision by the president to kill Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was a provocative act that could have consequences.
The Maryland Democrat questioned the Pentagon’s description of the strike as a defensive action to protect U.S. personnel given the Trump administration’s policy of confrontation with Iran.
He said the latest actions by the president puts Americans at risk and all but invites retaliation against the U.S and its allies.
Cardin called on the president to stop provocations and allow for diplomacy.
