Dover has a new police chief.
He is Captain Tom Johnson from Upper Darby.
WBOC reports this is the first time the city has hired from outside its ranks in more than 70 years.
Mayor Robin Christiansen made the announcement with the city council members signed off on the appointment shortly afterward.
Johnson comes from the largest municipal agency in Delaware County.
He was chosen from more than 20 candidates – a group that was cut down to six before the final selection was made.
