State Representative Sean Lynn wants the City of Dover to hold off on the utility charges for Wesley College.
The Dover Democrat says he would ask the city to do so until the school receives the state funding it is requests and a possible merger with another institution.
WBOC reports that Mayor Robin Christiansen has said it is too early to tell if it has the revenue to allow the college to forgo the utility charge.
The college has asked the state for $3.2 million to deal with its financial problems.
In addition, the school’s president has said that it is seeking to merge with another institution.
Last year Delaware provided $2 million through the higher education investment fund.
