Visitor Spending at Assateague National Seashore Boon to Local Economy

The economic impact of the Assateague National Seashore last year is estimated to have been nearly $106-thousand producing just over 11-hundred jobs.

The independent review found that there were 2.1 million visitors to the park in 2018 spending nearly $95-thousand.

WBOC reports that the study was conducted by economists from the U.S. Geological Survey along with the National Park Service.

Nationally, spending accounted for 329-thousand jobs with 268-thosuand in what are called gateway communities.

The total impact on the nation’s economy is just over $40 billion.
