Swamp Cancer Takes Life of Another Chincoteague Pony

Another pony has died on Chincoteague Island as a result of “swamp cancer”.

The announcement showed up on the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page.

WBOC reports that treatments for the horse named Lyra worked for a time but the fungus eventually took her life.

A new drug will be used in hopes that it will help the four horses still fighting the disease.
