Jurors Ask for Clarifications in Inmate Uprising Trial

The jurors in the prison uprising case have asked for a number of clarifications as they deliberate the fate of three inmates charged with murder among other counts.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that in their first note they asked for a clarification of restraint for those not involved in the initial kidnapping.

The inmates at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center held four correctional personnel hostage… which resulted in the death of Sgt. Steven Floyd.

Jarreau Ayers, Dwayne Staats and Deric Forney are charged with murder along with riot, conspiracy, assault and kidnapping.

Staats has been described as the mastermind of the uprising.

Ayers has argued that the jurors’ first note was about how culpable he would be as the person with the keys.

A second request asked about complicity and a third about whether everyone could be charged with conspiracy or some of the accused.

The judge’s response was delayed on the last question until the jury resumes its deliberations.
