Protest Over Staffing at ECI

inmateaid

Protesters gathered at the intersection of Route 13 and Revells Neck Road in Somerset County.

Some carried signs calling for safe staffing at the Eastern Correctional Institution while others simply said “Corrections Officers Lives Matter”.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the rally was organized by Sarah Mister, Kerry Carr and Bobbie Wigglesworth who are all married to correctional officers.

Mister told of inmates refusing to be locked in…and demanding a discussion of expansion of their activities.

She said this incident was the latest and described the situation at the prison as “a scary time”.

Also on hand at the rally were local elected officials including Delegate Mary Beth Carozza who is running to unseat State Senator Jim Mathias who also attended the gathering.

Other officials include Delegates Carl Anderson and Sheree Sample-Hughes and Johnny Mautz along with Ocean City Council member Wayne Hartman.
