John Atkins Will Not Run for Office After Friday's Arrest

legis.delaware.gov

Former state representative John Atkins has decided not to run for office in Delaware after he was arrested in a physical dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

Ten years ago the former Democratic legislator pleaded guilty to charges involving domestic violence and resigned from office.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that before the arrest on Friday he had been mulling over a comeback in his old seat – the 41st District.

The paper reports that a police trooper says Atkins grabbed the woman and “pushed her against her car” and was “loud and  aggressive.”

The News Journal says that Atkins did not respond to requests for comment.
