First Coast-to-Coast National Trail Proposed

official photo

Senator Chris Coons says he will introduce legislation that would make the American Discovery Trail part of the National Trails System.

There are a number of agencies that currently oversee 68-hundred mile long trail that runs from Cape Henlopen State Park to Point Reyes National Seashore.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the cost of maintaining the trail is estimated at $2-million a year.

The Delaware Democrat says the principle opposition comes from those leaders who fear the trail would become an excuse for the state to take privately owned lands.

If enacted the legislation would make this the nation’s first designated coast-to-coast trail.
