The 2013 Punkin Chunkin saw a 4,694 foot shot in perfect weather on Friday by the New Hampshire based American Chunker Incorporated which never lost its lead for the rest of the weekend.
The contest ended with the Milton-based Young Glory III which held the record with a 44-hundred foot shot in 2008 until this weekend.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that distances were hampered on Sunday by winds of near 15 mph and gusts of 20 mph which directly hit the rigs of the many competitors.
There were also an unusual number of pumpkins that disintegrated shortly after they became air born.
It is believed that this was the result of heavy rains that hit during the pumpkin growing season.
