Saying Goodbye to Punkin Chunkin on Delmarva

punkin chunkin website

Punkin Chunkin is moving on.

After a 33-year run in Sussex County the pumpkin catapulting event will be moving to Illinois this fall.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that this is the fourth move by the event since 1986.

This November it will be located in an area that was once the Chanute Air Force Base.

There had been discussions about moving Punkin Chunkin to Ocean City where the gourds would have been catapulted out to the sea.

The move comes after the owners of a property in Bridgeville where the event was traditionally held decided to not to continuing hosting it.

Punkin Chunkin brought fame to Delmarva with the Discovery Channel airing its first documentary on the event in 2002.
