Workshops on Plans to Widen Route 1 near Roth Bridge

BEAR, Del. (AP) - Delaware transportation officials are holding a public workshop on a plan to widen Route 1 from north of Route 273 to the Roth Bridge over the Chesapeake and Delaware canal.

Tuesday evening's workshop at Wilbur Elementary School in Bear involves the presentation of a noise study of the road project.

The project calls for adding a travel lane in each direction to Delaware's major north-south artery, widening existing bridges to accommodate the new travel lanes, and reconfiguring supporting interchanges.

Officials say the work is needed to address congestion, improve road connectivity, improve safety at high-crash locations, and ensure emergency access and evacuation routes.
