Incumbent Rudy Cane will seek another term in the House of Delegates.
The 79-year old Eastern Shore Democrat formally submitted his papers and told the Salisbury Daily Times, “Politics is a part of me.”
But he is getting a challenge from Wicomico County Council member Sheree Sample Hughes who formally entered the race in July.
Observers say expect an uphill battle for her challenge against Cane who outdistanced a 2010 challenge by 80 percent in the primary.
Cane’s record last legislative session includes a vote against gun control and the legalization of same-sex marriage.
He has also voted to repeal the death penalty and for in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants.
