News Journal Cuts Magazines and Positions

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The News Journal Media Group is cutting 28 positions and eliminating two magazines.

Publisher Ellen Leifeld announced the changes at the Gannett newspaper in Wilmington on Monday.

Leifeld says the changes will help the company "better align" resources. She says the focus must be on "providing strong local news coverage - including serious investigative reporting - and effective solutions for our advertisers."

Spark, a weekly magazine, and Signature Brandywine, a magazine with 10 editions annually, will close, but some content will appear in the newspaper and online.

The newspaper claims an average daily circulation of more than 80,000 and average Sunday circulation of more than 107,000.
