New MD Transportation Secretary to be Sworn In Today

BALTIMORE (AP) - Gov. Martin O'Malley is swearing in a new transportation secretary.

Jim Smith, the former Baltimore County executive, will be sworn in at a ceremony in Annapolis on Tuesday.

The position had been vacant since Beverley Swaim-Staley resigned a year ago.

The governor also will be swearing in Abby Hopper as the director of the Maryland Energy Administration. Hopper has been O'Malley's energy adviser since 2010. She

will continue in that role.
