DelDOT Seeks Federal Money for Toll Road Project

The Delaware Department of Transportation is again seeking millions of dollars for building the $471 million toll road project on U-S Route 301.

If DelDOT gets the money it would mean less borrowing costs.

But the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovative Act program denied a previous application for the project.

Secretary Shailen Bhatt said his agency has acquired 95 percent of the land needed for construction of a 14-mile, four-lane toll road between the Maryland line west of Middletown and Delaware Route 1 bridge over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal.

There would also be a spur linking the Summit Bridge.

Officials want to begin construction later this year with completion by 2015 or 2016.
