Eastern Shore Republican Andy Harris said no to the legislation approved by the House last night to avoid – what has become known -- as the fiscal cliff.
The 1st District Congressman joined outgoing Maryland Republican Roscoe Bartlett from the 6th Congressional District with the state’s remaining Democratic members voting in favor of the measure.
In a statement, Harris said he disagreed with the ratio of tax increases to spending cuts adding that measure raised taxes by $40 for every $1 dollar in spending reductions.
In addition, he said, it would raise taxes on 77 percent of Americans and continue “corporate cronyism” by providing billions in tax breaks to special interests.
A majority of Republicans in the House voted against the measure while a majority of Democrats gave the support to the bill.
