Sparks Fly at OC Town Council Over Unionizing Workers

official photo

The Ocean City Council squabbles this week over a measure on the November ballot that would allow the resort’s city employees to unionize.

By a 5-to-2 vote the Council rejected a motion by Joe Hall to rebuke the referendum.

Hall was joined by council member Brent Ashley.

He argued that he did not want to see any changes in the relationship between management and its employees.

At one point Mayor Rick Meehan banged his fist on the dais when giving reason why the Ocean City Employee Coalition tried to organize in the first place.

The group collected 16-hundred signatures more than enough to put the issue on the ballot.
