Police surveillance will be stepped up in Ocean City to combat a perceived increased in criminal behavior this summer.
Mayor Rick Meehan declared that public safety remains the resort’s top priority during a recent meeting of the town Council.
Officials emphasized that the city’s crime figures dropped by 6.3 percent over this time last year while citizen complaints declined by 11 percent.
But the Mayor said that a perception of increased crime can take a toll on the community and its businesses.
Ten additional surveillance cameras will be added to the Boardwalk.
Meehan said the Ocean City Police will also form an intelligence division that will be responsible for fighting crime.
