Governor Jack Markell has signed a measure that aimed at protecting abused and neglected children.
He signed the law at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Dover.
The law would improve the ability to investigate and follow-up on child abuse cases.
The state Kids Department will be called on to track every case of abuse reported to the 24-hour child abuse hotline.
It will also create a new position inside the department to keep tabs on every report of child abuse while also monitoring current cases.
Senate Majority Leader Patti Blevins has been a long-time advocate for child protection.
She says this new bill will help fix the cracks in our current system.
