SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — A Maryland man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for physically abusing a child. The Daily Times of Salisbury reported Tuesday that the man who was sentenced was Timothy Charles White Sr.

Police said that White, 35, physically abused a child under the age of 1. He caused bruises to the baby's face, head and buttocks and swelling to the head.

The injuries were not permanent.

White had been on probation at the time for a previous conviction that stemmed from a separate first-degree assault on an infant.

Eight years of White's sentence is for second-degree child abuse. The additional 12 years is for the probation violation.
