ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov. Larry Hogan has named a new transportation secretary for the state of Maryland.
The governor announced Monday that he has appointed Gregory Slater to be the next secretary. Slater is currently the administrator of the State Highway Administration.
The governor says Slater has led a major traffic relief plan involving public-private partnerships. He also led negotiations with Virginia to fix the American Legion Bridge.
His appointment is effective Jan. 10. Slater will replace Pete Rahn, who has been Hogan's transportation secretary since the governor took office in 2015.
The governor's office says Rahn is returning to his home in New Mexico.
