Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week is Coming Up

official photo

School is just around the corner.

And coming up will be Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week.

It runs from Sunday August 11th though Saturday the 17th.

It forgives the state’s 6 percent sales tax on qualifying clothing and footwear that is sold for $100 or less.

Since it is back to school time the first $40 in the price of a Backpack or Bookbag is also exempt from the tax.

While accessories are not included there no restrictions on the number of items purchased.

Comptroller Peter Franchot says the week attracts buyers from all of the region. “We’re taking a week that has been an historically slow week for retail sales and turned it into one of the top weeks of the entire year. People from Delaware, Virginia and Pennsylvania come in and shop in our stores because they hear about it. And, they know it’s a real benefit.”

Raincheck purchases are not included in the tax week so you will have to pay the six percent state sales tax on those items.
