Preparing for Back to School with Maryland's Tax Free Week

Shoppers are gearing up for its “Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week August 11th-17th as many ready their children for their return to school.

Among the items covered are certain clothing, footwear and accessories that cost a hundred dollars or less.

The first $40 of a Backpack/Bookbag purchase are also tax-exempt from the sales tax.

Layaway items are covered by the sales tax exemption but rain check items will not.

Virginia’s three-day tax holiday begins Friday and runs through Sunday.

Eligible items there are school supplies that cost $20 or less per item and clothing and foot wear worth $100 or less.

Hurricane preparedness items are also covered in Virginia with portable generate worth $1-thousand or less.
