94th Annual Chincoteague Pony Swim Today

creative commons

Tens of thousands have gathered this morning for the 94th Annual Chincoteague Pony Swim on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

The Saltwater Cowboys are expected to bring the herd across the channel from Assateague Island during the 9 o’clock hour.

The event is sponsored by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company which also takes care of the herd.

WBOC reports that after the swim the ponies will take a 45 minute break and then will be paraded through town on Main Street.

Tomorrow there will be an auction which will provide funds for the fire company.
