creative commons

Last night the Eastern Correctional Institution reported that two inmates have died.

WBOC reports that authorities say a 51-year-old inmate was found unresponsive at around 6:10 p.m. in his cell.

They said he was immediately given life-saving efforts before being transferred to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Around an hour later at 7:25 p.m. a 43-year-old inmate was found unresponsive and was also pronounced dead at PRMC.

The television station reports that the names of the two inmates are being withheld pending notification of family.

Authorities say an investigation is underway but they do not suspect foul play.
