Delaware Measure Could Leave Many Without Construction Jobs

creative commons

A measure being considered by Delaware lawmakers could jeopardize the jobs of some construction workers.

The measure would provide benefits to construction workers considered to be independent contractors.

But WBOC reports that many do not have access to a Social Security number and therefore could lose their jobs.

Many on construction jobs only have an I-TIN number through which they pay their taxes.

But the bill would no longer make that possible leaving many without work.

State Senator John Walsh sponsor of the bill sent a statement to the television station saying that it was never his intention to hurt Hispanic workers who often work as immigrants on construction jobs.
