Founder of Food Pantry that Helps Immigrants Steps Down

Dos Santos Food Pantry website

Angelica Garcia who founded a food bank in Accomack County that primarily serves immigration is stepping down.

Garcia established Dos Santos Food Pantry to help migrant workers but has expanded over the years providing assistance to those who are far from their homes.

Garcia told WBOC that the irony is that many of the migrants who seek food assistance are the same ones who harvest the agricultural crops.

Raquel Ruiz, a volunteer at the food bank, told the television station that she will be greatly missed but also see her departure as a change for a new beginning to meet the growing needs of the community.

Garcia is leaving the Eastern Shore of Virginia to be with family in California but says she will still keep in touch to help out the workers who come to the pantry.
