A 1963 University of Delaware Yearbook has been found to contain a photo of two students in blackface.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that there is not caption and the identities and context are not known.
The paper reports that it reviewed 15 university yearbooks from 1975 to 1985 and from 1962 to 1965 as part of a USA Today Network review of college yearbooks.
The paper also reports that two black students appear in white face paint in a 1976 yearbook.
The News Journal decided not to publish the photos without knowing who the students were and their context.
Carol Henderson UD’s Vice Provost of Diversity told the paper that she was saddened that anyone would demean others to make themselves feel better.
She added, “It’s a sad reflection of humanity when you disrespect other people.”
