Salisbury Police Department Computers Hacked

creative commons

The Salisbury Police Department’s internal computer system was hacked by ransomware.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that officials say that the city’s Information Director Bill Garrett began getting calls from police personal on January 9th that they were not able to access their files.

Two days later the paper reports authorities say their systems were back up and running.

Supplemental systems were back by January 14th.

Some data are reported to still be inaccessible.

There was an attempt to negotiate with the attacker but those talks “quickly disintegrated”.
