Maryland Governor Larry Hogan won re-election last night the first Republican to do so since 1954.
He beat out Democratic candidate Ben Jealous in a state in which Democrats have a 2-to-1 majority.
Hogan has taken a moderate political stance emphasizing bipartisanship and distancing himself from President Trump.
Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Ben Cardin won a third term easily defeating Republican and independent challenges.
It was a charged up atmosphere as voters cast their ballots.

EAstern Shore
On the Eastern Shore Republican Mary Beth Carozza has defeated longtime political figure State Senate Democrat Jim Mathias in yesterday’s election.
The unofficial tally puts Carozza at just over 24-thousand votes to Mathias at just over 21-thousand.
Meanwhile, Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver beat back an independent challenge by Salisbury City Council President Jack Heath who came in third in the race.
The Republican racked up just over 15-thousand votes handling beating the Democrat John Hamilton who had 93-hundred votes and Heath with 66-hundred.
Incumbent Republican congressman Andy Harris easily defeated Democratic challenger Jesse Colvin.
Harris beat him out with over 172-thousand votes compared to Colvin’s 107-thousand votes.
But there was some ticket splitting as voters in Wicomico County emerged from the polling place.
