Maryland University head football coach DJ Durkin has been fired.
The move comes one day after he was reinstated after a suspension following the death of football player Jordan McNair.
He had been suspended through the fall camp and eight regular season games.
University President Wallace Loh in making the announcement last night said that it was in best interest of the university.
Meanwhile, Maryland Democratic Representative Anthony Brown issued a statement calling the dismissal the right decision that would allow the university community to move forward.
USA Today reports that under his contract Durkin would be owed around $5.5 million.
And a university spokesperson told the paper that the coach was fired without cause.
McNair died of a heatstroke after failing to recover from a team workout.
