The outgoing mayor of Snow Hill Charlie Dorman says he quit because of his disagreement with other town officials on their direction of the town.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Dorman released a statement which focused on differences over to draw in new business.

His decision comes just months after being re-elected in May and will take effect at the end of the month.

But the Snow Hill Town Council issued a statement charging that Dorman’s claims that the council took away his mayoral power are not true.

The paper reports that the council charges that Dorman had made decisions without the council’s knowledge.

In one instance it said he told staff to ignore a city code that required certain building renovations in an agreement with a local business owner.

Stephen Mathews who has previously served as mayor will take over the job until an election is held next year.
