Delaware’s junior senator Chris Coons played a key role in hammering out a delay on the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh.
During an appearance on CBS’s “60 Minutes the Democrat sat with his Republican colleague Jeff Flake to describe that last minute decision by the Arizona senator.
These two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee squeezed themselves into a phone booth to deal with Flake’s concerns over sexual harassment charges against the nominee.
Coons said the he was principally concerned with helping Flake in his doubts and his conscience.
He added he could not tell the Arizona Republican how grateful he was for allowing time for an FBI investigation into the nominee.
One key factor Flake said was that if he had been running for reelection there would have been no agreement for the delay and investigation.
